Day Trip to Trefor Pier on Saturday 8th July 2017

This is a very handy site for divers and ideal dive spot for someone doing their first UK dive, as it is safe and easy to manage. Parking is close by with a very short walk to the steps. The main wooden pier is off limits but there are occasionally some people fishing nearby so need to be careful not to get too close to any fishing lines/hooks.

After descending the steps it is a short swim around the breakwater before you reach the wooden structure. A very short descent and you find yourself in an eerily pretty landscape with the sun being blocked each time you swim under the main deck of the structure.

The stanchions of the pier are covered in life with spider crabs, anemones, hydroids and star fish. The actual dive site under the pier is very short so you must take a good torch and proceed very slowly examining every inch as this is British Micro diving. The fallen metal work is ideal cover for the many blennies, pipe fish, prawns and lobsters. You also spot Pollack, wrasse, Poor Cod, Tom pot blennies and dog fish.

There are some picnic benches available and as we intend to make a day of it I’m suggesting we take picnics and/or BBQs to make a nice fun day out.

Dive the SS Derbent, Anglesey

This is one day diving on board the Julianne https://www.julieanncharters.co.uk/ to do two dives on the SS Derbent, Liverpool Bay, Anglesey. Two dives cost £50, there are 12 places available contact John Pearson to book your place. Please note the depth range is 28m to 42m, this trip will only be open to those who are qualified to the relevant depth.

The Derbent was an allied tanker torpedoed and sunk by U96 north of Anglesey. It was built in 1907 by Armstrong Whitworth & Co Ltd, in Newcastle Upon Tyne, length 94.5m, width 13.5m, weight 3178 tons. The wreck was confirmed as the Derbent when the bell was recovered July 1990. The wreck now lies in about 40m of water on its starboard side. Alan previously dived this in 2015 and there's a write up on our website for further details on this wreck.
